Mount Bromo Change Status to beware

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Activities of Mount Bromo in Probolinggo, East Java, has increased, from Alert to Beware, on Tuesday (11/23/2010) evening since at 16.30 WIB. This information is conveyed from Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation in the site.

Previously, the status of this mountain with peak reaching 2329 meters above sea level is only increased from alert to beware on Tuesday morning at 08.00 am.

Volcanic earthquake activity in the (VA) and shallow volcanic earthquake (VB) in the area continue to rise. Since November 8, 2010, volcanic tremors can be felt.

November 23, 2010, at 3:00 pm, continuous tremor earthquake with the maximum amplitude of 10-15 mm and 11 mm domination. At 6:51 pm, the tremor earthquake occur continuously with a maximum amplitude of 15 mm. Since at 15:40, an tremor earthquake recorded continuously with a maximum amplitude of 30 mm.

In connection with this Beware status, Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation recommended, for the communities around Bromo to calm and not provoked the issues concerning the eruption of Bromo. Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation is always coordinated with the Provincial Government of East Java (BPBD) and the Government of Probolinggo (as Satlak PB) on the activities of Bromo.

In addition, in order to reduce the risk of Bromo eruption disaster, the community and visitors or tourists or hikers are not allowed to approach within a radius of 3 km from the active crater. Sand sea of the caldera area within a radius of 2.5 km from the active crater must be sterile and closed from community activities and tours.
